Pet Health Care Insurance

In America, only three percent of pet owners had brought pet health care insurance for their family pet. Pet insurance companies in the USA are amazed that American pet owners have not taken-up pet health care insurance like European pet owners.

A veterinarian interviewed after the survey was surprised by the results. She felt that the survey was generous. She believes that less than one percent of her patients have any pet health care insurance.

In Europe, approximately twenty-five percent of all pet owners have some sort of pet health care insurance. In Sweden, almost half of all pet owners have pet insurance to help pay their pet’s medical expenses.

Owing to an act passed in 1971, United Kingdom dog owners are liable for any accident that their dog's are found responsible for. So if your dog runs out into traffic and causes an accident, you as the dogs owner will be responsible for paying all cost associated with any damages.

Unwilling to risk the cost of theirs pet’s misadventures; United Kingdom pet owners can purchase pet third party insurance. Pet third party insurance is simply liability insurance specifically geared to pet owners.

Many American pet owners may not realize that similar pet liability insurance policies are available in the United States. A pet owner who purchases pet liability insurance is covered by any damages their pet might be responsible for. Be aware that owners of particular breeds of dogs must pay extra as their dogs are classified as high-risk insurance cases.

So why aren’t American pet owners buying pet health care insurance?

Maybe pet owners do not understand exactly how expensive good quality pet health care is. Spend fifteen minutes at the vet's clinic and you maybe looking at a couple hundred dollars. Pet owners who have to face the cost of emergency surgery or who must take their pet to hospital to have a serious illness treated will soon see how enormous the bills can become.

Unfortunately, too many pet owners in an emergency situation are forced to euthanize their pet for economical reasons. In these situations, pet health care insurance can literally save your pet's life.

If you live in the city or in an apartment, you may not feel you need pet health care insurance because your pets live inside and what possibly could happen to them. What you do not understand is that their immune system is lest resistance and sometimes illness can affect house pets the hardest.
